A default option to have reviews returned in PDF or HTML format is now available as a preference. This preference may be set by clicking the Preferences tab on any search page or by selecting the desired format on the Publications search page.
It is not necessary to sign in in order to
use MathSciNet. However, if you do sign in, your preference
settings will be saved and available from any computer. You may
also save the items in your clipboard for
future use as well as the field selections in the pull-down
menus on the Publications search page.
Select the number of headlines to be displayed per page
MathSciNet search results are, by default, displayed 20 headlines per page. This number can be changed by clicking the radio button next to the option desired. The options are: 20, 50, or 100 headlines per page. The default setting may be saved in your preferences by clicking the Save button after selecting the desired setting.
Displaying or hiding reference lists
Reference lists from the original items from selected journals are included in MathSciNet full items, when available. These references are displayed, and so printed, by default. This display and printing may be turned off in preferences by clicking the Save button after selecting the desired setting.
Select full or simple headlines
You may select simple headlines, which allows for
more headlines to be visible at a time, by reducing the amount of
information associated with each item in a headline list. Full
headlines include links to PDF, document delivery, clipboard, and
journal and article links when available, as well as Mathematical
Subject Classification numbers.
Displaying or hiding DML Items
DML Items are items included in MathSciNet from the World Digital Mathematics Library (WDML). These include items published before 1940, when Mathematical Reviews began, and also more current items that may not have been taken into the database in the normal editorial process. You may select No under Display DML Items, if you do not wish these items to be displayed in search results.
MathSciNet Mirror sites
The primary server for MathSciNet is in Providence, RI USA. Mirror sites are located at Houston, TX USA; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Bielefeld, Germany; Bonn, Germany; and Strasbourg, France.
Choice of language for interface
A selection of languages is offered for the presentation of the MathSciNet search screens. Depending on browser and version, it may also be the case that the switch in languages is made automatically by a browser preferences primary language setting. The default choice of languages may be saved in your preferences by clicking the Save button after selecting the desired language.
Font Face
Your choices are Serif and Sans Serif. A serif is a short line stemming from and at an angle to the upper and lower ends of the strokes of a letter.
The search fields shown on the four primary search
field pull-down menus and the three Boolean connective pull-down menus
on the
Publications Search page are also in your preferences. The
initial settings of the field pull-down menus on
the Publications Search page are, in order from top to bottom, Author,
Title, MSC Primary, and Anywhere. The Boolean connectives are
initially set to AND.
