"Arthur T. Winfree (1942-2002)," by Leon Glass. Nature, 2 January 2003.

"Art Winfree's pioneering studies of the topological features of biologicaloscillations defined whole new areas of research," Glass writes. The tributeoutlines the highlights of Winfree's work, beginning with his being a 1961Westinghouse Science Talent Search finalist for figuring out how to blow hugesoap bubbles. From there he "shaped studies of biological and chemicaloscillations," wrote The Geometry of Biological Time (first published in1980), and "delighted in finding unexpected connections between geometry anddynamics."
