"Silicon dreams in the biology lab," by Diane Gershon, NatureJobs, 27June 2002.
Computational modeling of cells is a growing field---one that is attractingmathematicians into realm of biology. Gershon notes that some biologists areresistant to computational cell biology, in part because their traditionaltraining has not included a deep understanding of differential equations andrate constants, and the new field differs from their traditional methods. However, the author and many researchers studying genetics, cells and proteinsare convinced that computational modeling and traditional experimentationmethods are becoming more complementary and intertwined.
