"Beautiful Minds Minus Hollywood Glamour," by Betty Rollin. Los Angeles Times, 23 March 2002.
Betty Rollin, a contributing correspondent for NBC News, is married to a mathematician. After the release of the movie A Beautiful Mind, which is based on the life of mathematician John Nash, Rollin noticed that ``[s]uddenly, people are interested in my husband's species." She presents some stories about mathematicians' tendency to be absorbed in their work to the exclusion of just about everything else. "To say mathematicians love their work doesn't begin to cover it," she writes. "They inhale their work. They exhale it. They swallow it."
