"Sure, It's Rocket Science, But Who Needs Scientists?", by James Glanz. The New York Times, 17 June 2001.

"Science's influence in public policy is at a low ebb with this White House,"Glanz reports. He notes that Dr. D. Allan Bromley, the science advisor toPresident Bush's father, is critical of the current administration for not yetselecting a science or science and technology advisor, and for its "tepidfinancial support of science." And the article notes the conflicting messagesof the President in his choosing to downplay scientific findings regardingclimate changes, while pushing plans to develop a missile defense system thatis based on even less certain scientific research.
