"Claude E. Shannon (1916-2001)," by Solomon W. Golomb. Science, 20 April 2001.

This is a one-page retrospective on the life of Claude Shannon---a pioneer in digital communication. Golomb writes that, "It is no exaggeration that Claude Shannon was the Father of the Information Age and his intellectual achievement one of the greatest of the 20th century." Shannon's achievements were honored by many awards, including the U.S. National Medal of Science in 1966. He died on February 24, 2001.
