Instructions for Getting Started

  1. Go to community.ams.org in your web browser.
  2. Click the link “log in to see members only content” in the upper right corner. Enter the email address associated with your AMS membership and your previously selected AMS password. If you have not used this password since January 11, 2013, please utilize the “Reset Password” link below. Two other options on the screen that may help should problems arise are “Find Username” and “Register Now.”
  3. Once logged in, you will be directed to the AMS Community Network Code of Conduct. You will be asked to agree with the discussion group rules and etiquette. To revisit this page at a later date, select the “Code of Conduct” link in the upper right hand corner.
  4. Following your acceptance of the Code of Conduct, you will arrive at your profile page. Here, you can add a picture and update your personal and contact information at any time.
  5. Click the “Home” tab at the left edge of the main menu bar to return to the home page. In the “Getting Started” box at the upper right of the page, begin by browsing active communities. If you would like to start a community on a mathematical topic of interest to you and others, use the links in “Getting Started” Step 3. Groups on a specific area of mathematical research should be proposed as a New Activity Group. Groups on other topics of interest to the mathematical community should be proposed as a New Community Forum.
  6. After completing and submitting your proposal, please allow 2-3 weeks for approval. In your proposal, you will be naming two co-moderators who are also members of the AMS. Once approved, you will be contacted via email to begin your initial activities in the community.
  7. When the community is officially up and running, moderators and participants are expected to follow the Code of Conduct for the AMS Community Network.
  8. Consider starting a community with your colleagues on a topic of interest today!
