Registration and Meeting Information

Registration is Open.

Registration is required to attend, present, submit an abstract, or view recorded content. We have lowered fees for these virtual meetings. NEW! If you register for two fall virtual sectional meetings, you can register for the other two for free.

Registration Fee per sectional (no difference for advance registration):

US\$10         Students and Unemployed Mathematicians
US\$15         AMS Emeritus Members
US\$25         Regular AMS and CMS (Canadian Mathematical Society) Members
US\$75         Non-members

Registration fees help support a wide range of activities associated with planning, organizing, and conducting these meetings.

In the event that your abstract is not accepted or you have to cancel your participation in the program due to unforeseen circumstances, your registration fee will be reimbursed.

All registered participants will be able to view all sessions and talks live, at their scheduled times. All registered participants will be able to view any session or talk that was recorded, dependent on presenters' preferences on being recorded, after the meeting. The recordings will be uploaded approxmately two days to one week after the meeting, and be accessible for approximately 3 months. Talks where the presenters opted out of recording will not be posted. Informal sessions will not be recorded or posted. You must register before a sectional meeting closes in order to attend it and access its content after it ends.

Thank you. We look forward to having you join us.

Register online and follow these steps:

  1. After clicking on "Register," you will be asked to enter your email address, and then log in to your account, or create a web account if you do not already have one. This only requires a username (email address), password, name, and address. If you already have a web account with us, please log in with your username (email address) and password. Please make sure that the email address that you are using is current, as we will send any pertinent updates to this email.
  2. Once you create the account, then continue on to register for the meeting(s). The same username and password may be used to register for all future sectional meetings.
  3. If you are registering for a third or fourth 2020 AMS fall virtual sectional meeting, choose your regular registration category. When you check out, it will not be necessary to enter credit card information; simply click "Complete Registration" and the 100% discount will be applied.

Registering someone else: If you are planning to register someone else, verify that that person has an AMS web account. If they do not have a web account, please have them go to Register for a web account, or email AMS Customer Service to create one. You do not have to be a member to have an AMS web account. It is also possible that an AMS member does not have a web account, if they have never shopped at our bookstore, or registered online for a meeting. Ask for the email address associated with their web account, and use this to register them. When you click on the registration form, choose "Register Someone Else". Please first login with your personal AMS web account. If you do not have one, please create one. Enter the email address associated with your account, and then your password. If will ask you if you want to register someone else, or yourself. Click “someone else,” and enter the email address belonging to the person’s web account. Click on the green box that says “Check.” Choose the person, and continue the registration.

We hope that you will find this system easy to use. Once your information is in our system, you will not have to enter your information for any future sectional meetings, unless it has changed, thus making your registration faster and easier. For any questions or concerns about this process, please contact the Mathematics Meetings Service Bureau.

Participants may cancel registrations made in advance by emailing the Mathematics Meetings Service Bureau. 100% refunds will be issued for any advance registrations cancelled by the end of the day (11:59 EDT) on October 23. After this date, no refunds will be issued for this meeting.

Session Access During the Meeting

In order to view and join the sessions during the meeting and to access functions like the personal schedule on the Virtual Meeting Platform, you must sign in first. To sign in, you will need to use your AMS web account, which is the one you used to register. Please use the same email address and password. If you encounter any difficulties logging in, please email mtgs-virtual@ams.org. To join a session, click on the "Join Now" button, which will automatically display 20 minutes before the start of that session.

Program

In order to keep registration fees as low as possible, save on printing costs, and make the meetings more environmentally friendly, a small fee will be charged for receiving a program book.

For your convenience, the following changes have been made to the website to make the program more accessible and mobile-friendly.

  • Virtual Meeting Program: When the Virtual Meeting Platform goes live, the link to it will be emailed to all current registrants. After this email, the link will be included in the registration confirmation emails. It will also appear on the Program page during the week before the meeting. You must be registered for the meeting and sign in with your AMS web account to access the zoom sessions.
  • Online Timetable: The sectional meetings now have an online timetable display. It will provide a quick reference to the sessions.
  • Print-friendly Pages: The pages of the program now have a “Print” button in the top right-hand corner. It is black and is depicted by a little printer. If you cannot see it, please maximize your window. The printer icon is sometimes bundled into the generic “share” icon when the window is re-sized. If you click the printer button, it will print the text of the page without additional webpage elements. If you go to the page of a special session and click the print icon, you will get a schedule of all the parts of that session. This can also be printed to pdf if you have a pdf printer installed.

Child Care Grants

The AMS will provide a limited number of reimbursement grants of US\$125 per family to help with the cost of child care for registered participants at the meeting. The funds may be used for any form of child care that frees a parent to participate more fully in the meeting. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, one per family, and one per season (i.e. Spring or Fall), the latter depending on the amount of grants available. Registration for the meeting as well as membership in the AMS is required to apply for this program.

Information about applying for child care grants is on Mathprograms.org, and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until September 1, 2020. Final decisions on recipients will be made on or before September 22, 2020.

Special Needs

It is the goal of the AMS to ensure that its conferences are accessible to all, regardless of disability. The AMS will strive to make all as accessible as possible.

If special needs accommodations are necessary in order for you to participate in an AMS Sectional Meeting, please communicate your needs in advance to the AMS Meetings Department by:

AMS Policy on a Welcoming Environment

The AMS strives to ensure that participants in its activities enjoy a welcoming environment. In all its activities, the AMS seeks to foster an atmosphere that encourages the free expression and exchange of ideas. The AMS supports equality of opportunity and treatment for all participants, regardless of gender, gender identity or expression, race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion or religious belief, age, marital status, sexual orientation, disabilities, or veteran status.

Harassment is a form of misconduct that undermines the integrity of AMS activities and mission.

The AMS will make every effort to maintain an environment that is free of harassment, even though it does not control the behavior of third parties. A commitment to a welcoming environment is expected of all attendees at AMS activities, including mathematicians, students, guests, staff, contractors and exhibitors, and participants in scientific sessions and social events. To this end, the AMS will include a statement concerning its expectations towards maintaining a welcoming environment in registration materials for all its meetings, and has put in place a mechanism for reporting violations. Violations may be reported confidentially and anonymously to (855) 282-5703 or here. The reporting mechanism ensures the respect of privacy while alerting the AMS to the situation. Violations may also be brought to the attention of the coordinator for the meeting (who is normally at the meeting registration desk), and that person can provide advice about how to proceed. In the case of a virtual meeting, the coordinator can be reached online during the meeting.

For AMS policy statements concerning discrimination and harassment, see the AMS Anti-Harassment Policy.

Questions about this welcoming environment policy should be directed to the AMS Secretary.

Attendees and speakers are encouraged to tweet about the meeting using the hashtag #AMSmtg.
