Participants should make their own arrangements directly with a hotel of their choice. Special rates have been negotiated with the hotels listed below. Other Activities

AMS Book Sale: Examine the newest titles from AMS! Most books will be available at a special 50% discount offered only at meetings. Complimentary coffee will be served, courtesy of AMS Membership Services.

TA Development Using Case Studies: A Workshop for Faculty: Diane Herrmann, University of Chicago, will guide workshop participants in the effective use of the case studies method as a tool in preparing Teaching Assistant for their important role as classroom instructors. The faculty edition of the publication Teaching Mathematics in Colleges and Universities: Case Studies for Today's Classroom, from the CBMS series Issues in Mathematics Education, will be provided to workshop participants at no charge, compliments of the AMS. The workshop will be held on Sunday, October 13, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Room B211, Van Vleck Hall.

Travel support awards of \$200 per department are available for up to ten departments. (At most two faculty representatives from each department,
please.) Travel support is provided by the Calculus Consortium for Higher Education, and to be eligible for this support, faculty representatives must have their department chair send a letter to the AMS stating the department's serious intent to use the case studies materials in their TA training or development program.

Registration and Meeting Information

Registration fees: (payable on-site only) \$40/AMS members; \$60/nonmembers; \$5/emeritus members, students, or unemployed mathematicians. Fees are payable by cash, check, VISA, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express.

Registration will take place in Van Vleck Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, October 12, and 8:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday, October 13. All sessions will be held in Van Vleck Hall, 480 Lincoln Drive.

Reception

The Department of Mathematics invites all meeting participants to a reception at the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St, starting at 6pm on Saturday, October 12.

Parking

Some of the campus parking lots are available without a permit from Friday (after 5pm) through Sunday. Please read the signs posted in each lot to determine if parking is available. Visit the website http://www.wisc.edu/ath/vinfo/cmap/fullmap2.html for location of lots. You may also park on Observatory Drive, just west of Charter Street after 5pm on Friday and during the entire weekend.

There is also a City of Madison parking ramp on Lake Street, near University Avenue. This ramp is about 3 blocks from Van Vleck Hall.

Travel

By Air: Dane County Regional Airport, on Madison's northeast side, provides regional and national air service to and from Madison. Seventy-five flights daily connect passengers to 22 locations, reaching 600 domestic and 70 international destinations with one stop-service.

Driving: Take I-90 or US 151 to Hwy 12/18. Follow Hwy 12/18 and exit at Park Street (Exit 261 B). Proceed north on Park Street about four miles to Johnson Street and turn right on Johnson Street. Proceed one block to Lake Street and turn left on Lake Street.

Two public parking ramps that charge by the hour are available on Lake Street and are within a five-minute walk to campus.

Car rental: Special rates have been negotiated with Avis Rent A Car for the period October 5--October 20, 2002. All rates include unlimited free mileage; the weekend rates quoted are available from noon Thursday until Monday at 11:59 p.m. Rates do not include state or local surcharges, tax, optional coverages, or gas refueling charges. Renter must meet Avis' age, driver, and credit requirements. Make reservations by calling 800-331-1600 or online at www.avis.com. Non weekend and weekly rates are also available. Please quote Avis Discount Number B159266 when making reservations.
