"Calculus of the Battlefield," by David Glenn. Chronicle of Higher Education, 8 November 2002, pages A14-A16.
This article discusses the use of quantitative methods, such as game theory models, in studying wars and other conflicts. Such methods have limitations and drawbacks but can provide insights. One difficulty is that the information needed in order to create realistic models is often not available. The article touches on present-day conflicts, such as that between the United States and Iraq.
