"Proof, Amazement, and the Unexpected," by Reviel Netz. Science, 1 November 2002, pages 967-970.
This is an article about Archimedes and some of the results he achieved. The title refers to three of the themes that run together in his treatises. The accomplishments described in the article will be familiar to many, but Netz writes about Archimedes with such enthusiasm that it is worth risking the repetition to read the article.
