"Silicon dreams in the biology lab," by Diane Gershon, NatureJobs, 27 June 2002.
Computational modeling of cells is a growing field---one that is attracting mathematicians into realm of biology. Gershon notes that some biologists are resistant to computational cell biology, in part because their traditional training has not included a deep understanding of differential equations and rate constants, and the new field differs from their traditional methods. However, the author and many researchers studying genetics, cells and proteins are convinced that computational modeling and traditional experimentation methods are becoming more complementary and intertwined.
