The mathematical project of a 16 year old from Ireland may provide a faster way to encrypt information sent via the Internet. These articles introduce Sarah Flannery and the encryption scheme she helped develop. The scheme uses public key cryptography -- a method which relies on mathematical operations that are difficult to undo -- and is significantly faster than the predominantly used RSA algorithm.
