How to Donate
Cash, check or credit
Giving by cash, check, or credit is easy and fast. You can give online or download, print, and fill out the donation form and return it to the AMS Development Office. Please make checks payable to the “American Mathematical Society.”
Gifts of securities (stocks, bonds, and most mutual fund shares) can provide favorable tax advantages to you. Giving long-term appreciated property provides a double benefit: you generally get a charitable deduction for the full fair-market value of the property, plus you avoid any potential capital-gain tax. Contact Robin Marek at the AMS Development Office to learn more about making a gift of securities.
The AMS considers gifts of real property on a case-by-case basis in accordance with its gift policies. Such donations may include residences, vacation homes, business or commercial property (developed or undeveloped). If you are interested in donating real estate, contact the AMS AMS Development Office for information.
Other assets that can be gifted include gifts of tangible personal property, and royalties and distribution rights. If you have an idea or question regarding an asset that you wish to donate to the Society, you are encouraged to discuss it with our staff.
Bequests and Estate Planning
Solidifying your commitment to mathematics and the AMS, you have many choices in making a legacy gift to the Society.
You can designate a gift or portion of your estate by bequest to the AMS when you prepare or update your will. The Development staff will gladly provide your attorney with sample language to use in the preparation of your Estate plan. Your gift by bequest establishes a legacy that enriches mathematical scholarship for future generations and includes you in a generous group of mathematicians dedicated to supporting the future of the discipline.
You can name the AMS as the designated beneficiary of a retirement plan or as the designated or partial beneficiary of a life insurance policy. With a charitable remainder trust, assets can be placed in a trust that pays annual income to you (or another named beneficiary) for life, and the remainder of the trust is transferred to the AMS after your lifetime. The AMS also offers charitable gift annuities in accordance with its gift policies.
The Thomas S. Fiske Society recognizes individuals who have made provision for the American Mathematical Society in their Estate plans.

Beloved family members, friends, and colleagues can be remembered with a tribute gift during their lifetime (i.e., in honor of) or when their life has ended (i.e., in memory of). Such gifts are an expression of respect and goodwill that greatly benefit the mathematics community. Each year, the AMS recognizes its tribute donors and the people they have remembered in two publications: the Annual Report and Notices.
To honor someone with a tribute gift, you may donate online or download, print, and fill out the donation form and return it to the AMS Development Office.
